Operations: EMS
Clark County Fire & Rescue provides Advanced Life Support (ALS) service to the community with Paramedics/Firefighters on the Battle Ground engine and a public/private partnership with American Medical Response. This partnership allows the Department to also assure that an ambulance is available in the greater Battle Ground area when needed.
Under this unique public/private partnership, AMR provides a Paramedic and the Fire Department provides an Emergency Medical Technician. Together they staff the Fire Department's ambulance and respond to medical emergencies in the City of Battle Ground and Clark County. If the AMR ambulance that is normally located in the greater Battle Ground area is out of the area when an EMS call comes in, the Department's ambulance will respond and transport rather than wait for an AMR ambulance to respond from the Vancouver area.
While not running EMS calls, this ambulance crew is available to respond to fire calls, oversee and maintain medical supplies and equipment, assist with EMS training to department personnel, and assist with regular station duties.
This program has been in place since 1992 and was the first of its kind in the country. This public/private partnership has resulted in improved emergency medical services for area residents and is a win/win program for both Clark County Fire & Rescue and AMR. |
