CERT (Community Emergency Response Team)

CERT team members are citizens who volunteer to train in disaster preparedness, light search and rescue, emergency first aid, and handling of psychological trauma. In a large scale disaster, individuals and communities may have to rely on their own resources for food, water, rescue, and medical assistance for up to 72 hours (or more if the disaster is very severe). Members are trained to prepare their homes and cars before disaster strikes, and in a disaster:
  • Stay safe
  • Help their families
  • Help their community
  • Help with problems throughout the city
After the initial hours of a disaster, CERT members are contacted as needed. By taking these simple emergency preparedness measures, you can help take some of the load off of the emergency responders so they can concentrate on helping those who are unable to help themselves. If you are interested in becoming involved in a Clark County CERT Team please us.

Fire Extinguisher Training

Portable fire extinguishers are required in many locations including businesses, schools, hotels and motels. Proper use of a portable fire extinguisher can put out a small fire or control it until the fire department arrives. Do you know how to use one? While operation of most portable fire extinguishers is simple, hands-on training is the best way to ensure timely and efficient operation in an emergency.

Clark County Fire & Rescue provides fire extinguisher training to businesses, schools, civic associations and just about any interested group. The training includes a classroom presentation followed by hands-on, live fire training. Casual dress is encouraged for this class. Clark County Fire & Rescue supplies all training materials except for the extinguishers. (Extinguishers may be rented from a private company). Generally, one 10-pound ABC fire extinguisher for every four people participating in the live-fire training is required. Click here to learn more about fire extinguishers.
