Our Mission
The Training Division serves as the cornerstone of Clark-Cowlitz Fire Rescue’s commitment to excellence in public safety. We provide comprehensive initial training, coordinate fire academy instruction, and deliver ongoing education and professional development for all members. Our primary mission is to ensure that every member can perform essential services safely and effectively while preventing skills degradation through continuous learning and development.
Training Standards and Compliance
Specialized training for first responders is mandated by Washington State law and must conform to industry standards established by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC). This training is essential to the safety of our personnel and the communities we serve. Our comprehensive curriculum encompasses:
Firefighting Operations – Structural and wildland fire suppression
Emergency Medical Services – EMT, paramedic, and advanced life support training
Emergency Vehicle Operation – Driver training and apparatus operation
Hazardous Materials Response – Awareness and operations
Technical Rescue Operations – Rope rescue, confined space, rescue swimming, swift water rescue, and collapse rescue
Operational Readiness – Incident command, tactical decision-making, and safety protocols
Company Officer Development – Prepares firefighters for leadership roles and ongoing leadership education so they can effectively lead in today’s fire service.
